Last judgement

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Last Judgement or Final Judgement is a concept found in various religious traditions. It refers to the divine judgement that is believed to take place at the end of time, when each individual will be judged according to their actions during their lifetime. The Last Judgement is a significant theme in Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and other religions.

Concept[edit | edit source]

The Last Judgement is often associated with the eschatological beliefs of a religion, which deal with the ultimate destiny of humanity and the universe. In many traditions, the Last Judgement is believed to occur after a period of tribulation, during which the moral and spiritual qualities of each individual are tested.

In the context of Christianity, the Last Judgement is described in several passages of the New Testament, most notably in the Book of Revelation. According to these accounts, Jesus Christ will return to judge the living and the dead, rewarding the righteous with eternal life in heaven, and condemning the wicked to eternal punishment in hell.

In Islam, the Last Judgement is referred to as the Day of Judgement or Qiyamah. On this day, it is believed that all beings will be judged by Allah based on their deeds in the world. The righteous will be rewarded with paradise (Jannah), while the wicked will be punished in hell (Jahannam).

Interpretations[edit | edit source]

Interpretations of the Last Judgement vary widely among different religious traditions and denominations. Some view it as a literal event that will occur at a specific point in the future, while others interpret it metaphorically, seeing it as a symbol of the moral and spiritual accountability that each individual faces.

In addition to its religious significance, the Last Judgement has also been a popular theme in art, literature, and philosophy, often serving as a metaphor for the ultimate consequences of human actions.
