2022-2023 monkeypox outbreak in Spain

Monkeypox is a viral zoonosis with symptoms in human similar to but milder than smallpox. It occurs mainly in remote parts of Central and West Africa, near tropical rainforests. It was first identified in laboratory monkeys in 1958. It spread to human, mainly through close contact with infected animals, such as monkeys, rats, squirrels, and prairie dogs. There is no specific treatment or vaccine available for monkeypox.
