4-CAB

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

4-CAB (4-chloroandrost-4-ene-3β,17β-diol), also known as 4-chloroandrostenediol or 4-chloro-DHEA, is a synthetic androstenediol that was first described in a 2009 patent application and is sold as a dietary supplement. It is a chlorinated derivative of androstenediol and is also related to other chlorinated steroids, such as mibolerone and clostebol.

Chemistry[edit | edit source]

4-CAB, also known as 4-chloroandrost-4-ene-3β,17β-diol, is a synthetic androstane steroid and a derivative of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It is more specifically a derivative of androstenediol (androst-5-ene-3β,17β-diol), with a chlorine atom at the C4 position. Other chlorinated steroids include clostebol (4-chlorotestosterone; 4-chloroandrost-4-en-17β-ol-3-one), mibolerone (7α,17α-dimethyl-4-chloro-DHT), and gestrinone (17α-ethynyl-18-methyl-19-nor-4,9,11-trienolone).

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

As a derivative of androstenediol, 4-CAB is a prohormone of 4-chlorotestosterone. It is also a prohormone of 4-chloro-DHT, which is more potent as an agonist of the androgen receptor than is testosterone.

Society and culture[edit | edit source]

4-CAB is marketed as a prohormone in the United States, where it is sold over-the-counter as a dietary supplement.
