Annie Lennox (born 25 December 1954) is a Scottish singer-songwriter and political activist. She achieved international fame in the late 1970s and 1980s as the lead singer of the new wave band Eurythmics, which she co-founded with Dave Stewart. Lennox is known for her powerful contralto voice and her androgynous look.

Annie Lennox was born in Aberdeen, Scotland. She attended the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she studied the flute, piano, and harpsichord. Despite her classical training, Lennox was drawn to the emerging pop and rock scenes.

Lennox's early career included a stint with the band The Tourists, where she met Dave Stewart. The two formed Eurythmics in 1980, achieving significant success with hits like "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" and "Here Comes the Rain Again".

In 1992, Lennox released her debut solo album, Diva, which was a commercial and critical success. The album included hits such as "Why" and "Walking on Broken Glass". She followed this with several more solo albums, including Medusa and Songs of Mass Destruction.

Lennox is also known for her political activism, particularly in the areas of HIV/AIDS awareness and women's rights. She founded the SING Campaign to raise awareness and funds for women and children affected by HIV and AIDS.
