Avery August

Avery August is an immunologist and professor known for his significant contributions to the field of immunology. He is currently the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and a Professor of Immunology at Cornell University.

Early Life and Education

Avery August was born in Belize, Central America. He moved to the United States to pursue his higher education. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology from the California State University, Los Angeles. He then went on to earn his Ph.D. in Immunology from the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences in New York.

Career

After completing his Ph.D., August joined the faculty of the Pennsylvania State University as a Professor of Immunology. He later moved to Cornell University where he currently serves as the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and a Professor of Immunology.

August's research primarily focuses on the role of phosphoinositide 3-kinases (PI3Ks) in immune responses. His work has significantly contributed to our understanding of how PI3Ks regulate immune cell function and how their dysregulation can lead to diseases such as asthma and autoimmune diseases.

Awards and Honors

Avery August has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the field of immunology. These include the Pew Scholar in the Biomedical Sciences award and the American Association of Immunologists (AAI) Distinguished Service Award.
