Biomedical

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Biomedical refers to the application of natural science, especially the biological and physiological sciences, to clinical medicine. It involves the use of biological principles, theories, and innovations to solve health and medical problems. Biomedical research, engineering, and technology have led to significant advancements in healthcare and medicine.

Biomedical Research[edit | edit source]

Biomedical research is the broad area of science that involves the investigation of the biological process and the causes of disease through careful experimentation, observation, laboratory work, analysis, and testing. Scientists use biomedical research to discover, understand, and develop treatments for diseases and conditions.

Biomedical Engineering[edit | edit source]

Biomedical engineering is a multidisciplinary field that applies engineering principles and design concepts to medicine and biology for healthcare purposes. This field seeks to close the gap between engineering and medicine, combining the design and problem-solving skills of engineering with medical and biological sciences to advance healthcare treatment, including diagnosis, monitoring, and therapy.

Biomedical Technology[edit | edit source]

Biomedical technology is a growing field that combines engineering and technology to improve healthcare diagnosis, monitoring, and therapy. Biomedical technology often involves the design and development of medical equipment and devices, such as MRI machines, micro-implants, robotic prosthetics, and therapeutic biologicals.

Biomedical Sciences[edit | edit source]

Biomedical sciences are a set of applied sciences applying portions of natural science or formal science, or both, to develop knowledge, interventions, or technology of use in healthcare or public health. Such disciplines as medical microbiology, clinical virology, clinical epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, and biomedical engineering are medical sciences.
