Bursa
<languages /><translate> Bursa is a fluid-filled sac that cushions and reduces friction in certain parts of the body such as where tendons, ligaments etc insert in to the bone. Inflammation of a bursa is called bursitis.
Types of bursa[edit | edit source]
- Shoulder - subacromial bursa
- Upper back - scapulothoracic bursa
- Elbow - olecranon bursa
- Pelvis - ischial bursa
- Hip - Greater trochanteric bursa
- Knee - Prepatellar and infrapatellar bursa
- Heel - retrocalcaneal bursa
Function[edit | edit source]
Bursa help lubricate the areas of friction and reduce stress on the tendons, ligaments and other structure.
Common problems with bursa[edit | edit source]
Injury, infection, and inflammation are common.
