Cheri L. Canon

Cheri L. Canon is an American radiologist and academician known for her contributions to the field of radiology. She is currently the Witten-Stanley Endowed Chair of Radiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where she also serves as the department chair.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

Canon was born and raised in the United States. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin, where she majored in biology. She then pursued her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Following her graduation, Canon completed her residency in radiology at the University of Utah, and later, a fellowship in Abdominal Imaging at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).

Canon began her career as a faculty member at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She later moved to the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she currently holds the position of the Witten-Stanley Endowed Chair of Radiology and serves as the department chair.

In her role, Canon has been instrumental in advancing the field of radiology through her research and clinical work. She has a particular interest in Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and her work has contributed to the development of new techniques and protocols in these areas.

Canon is also an active member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Radiology (ACR), where she has held various leadership positions. She has been recognized for her contributions to the field with numerous awards and honors.
