Conspiracy Theory is a 1997 American thriller film directed by Richard Donner, written by Brian Helgeland, and starring Mel Gibson, Julia Roberts, and Patrick Stewart. The film follows Jerry Fletcher (Gibson), a New York City taxi driver and conspiracy theorist who believes in numerous conspiracy theories, and Alice Sutton (Roberts), a Justice Department attorney whom Jerry is infatuated with. When one of Jerry's theories turns out to be true, he must evade the efforts of a shadowy organization led by Dr. Jonas (Stewart) while trying to save himself and Alice.

Jerry Fletcher is a paranoid New York City cab driver and avid conspiracy theorist, who pesters local attorney Alice Sutton with his theories. Despite his erratic behavior, Alice indulges Jerry due to a past incident where he saved her from a mugging. Jerry's life takes a dramatic turn when he is abducted and tortured by members of a mysterious organization after one of his seemingly outlandish theories about a government assassination program proves to be true. With the help of Alice, Jerry attempts to expose the conspiracy and survive the relentless pursuit of Dr. Jonas and his operatives.
