Doctor Mid-Nite
] Doctor Mid-Nite is the name of multiple fictional characters, superheroes appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The original Doctor Mid-Nite, Charles McNider, was created by writer Charles Reizenstein and artist Stan Aschmeier and first appeared in All-American Comics #25 in 1941. The character was later succeeded by Beth Chapel and Pieter Cross.
Charles McNider[edit | edit source]
Charles McNider was a renowned surgeon who was blinded by a grenade blast while treating a witness to a mob hit. Despite his blindness, McNider discovered he could see in complete darkness. Using special infrared goggles and black-out bombs, he adopted the identity of Doctor Mid-Nite and became a crimefighter. He was a founding member of the Justice Society of America (JSA).
Beth Chapel[edit | edit source]
Beth Chapel was introduced in Infinity, Inc. #19 in 1985. She was a medical doctor who took up the mantle of Doctor Mid-Nite after Charles McNider. Chapel was a member of Infinity, Inc., a team composed of the children and protégés of the JSA members. She was later killed during the events of Eclipso: The Darkness Within.
Pieter Cross[edit | edit source]
Pieter Cross is the modern Doctor Mid-Nite, introduced in Doctor Mid-Nite #1 in 1999. Cross is a Norwegian American physician who was blinded in a car accident caused by a drug cartel. Like his predecessors, he can see in the dark and uses advanced technology to fight crime. He is a member of the Justice Society of America and has served as a medical consultant to various superhero teams.
Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]
All versions of Doctor Mid-Nite possess the ability to see in complete darkness, a skill that is often enhanced by the use of special goggles. They are also highly skilled in hand-to-hand combat and possess extensive medical knowledge. The characters use various gadgets, including blackout bombs and other specialized equipment, to aid in their crime-fighting efforts.
