Born in Rozwadów, Poland, she was a significant figure in the Catholic Church's history of religious congregations dedicated to education and care for families, particularly those in need.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Franciszka Siedliska was born into a wealthy noble family. From a young age, she exhibited a deep spiritual life and a desire to dedicate herself to God. Despite her parents' initial opposition, her determination led her to pursue her religious vocation.

Founding of the Congregation[edit | edit source]

In 1875, with the support of Cardinal Zygmunt Szczęsny Feliński, Siedliska founded the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth in Rome, Italy. Under Siedliska's leadership, the congregation quickly expanded beyond Italy. Establishments were founded in various parts of Europe, America, and later in Australia and other regions. The Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth focused on education, from primary schools to higher education institutions, and provided care for orphans and the elderly.

Siedliska's vision was characterized by a deep respect for the individual and a commitment to fostering family life. She emphasized the importance of adapting the congregation's work to the needs of the time and place, a principle that guided the congregation's expansion and activities.

Canonization Process[edit | edit source]

The cause for Siedliska's canonization began in 1938. She was declared Venerable by Pope Paul VI in 1974 and beatified by Pope John Paul II on 23 April 1989. Her beatification recognized her life of holiness and the impact of her work with the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth.
