Giancarlo Pepeu


Giancarlo Pepeu (born 1935) is an Italian neuroscientist and pharmacologist known for his significant contributions to the field of neuropharmacology. He is particularly recognized for his research on the role of acetylcholine in the brain and its implications for neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease.

Giancarlo Pepeu was born in 1935 in Florence, Italy. He completed his undergraduate studies in Pharmacy at the University of Florence in 1958. He then pursued his doctorate in Pharmacology under the guidance of Professor Vittorio Erspamer, a renowned Italian pharmacologist.

After completing his doctorate, Pepeu joined the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Florence as a faculty member. He later became the head of the department and held this position until his retirement.
