Joe Gilmore

Joe Gilmore (1922 – 18 December 2015) was a renowned British bartender who worked at the Savoy Hotel's American Bar in London. He is celebrated for his contributions to the art of mixology and for creating numerous famous cocktails.

Joe Gilmore was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1922. He moved to London in his youth and began his career in the hospitality industry.

Gilmore started working at the Savoy Hotel in 1940. He quickly rose through the ranks due to his exceptional skills and dedication. In 1955, he was appointed Head Barman of the American Bar, a position he held until his retirement in 1976.

During his tenure, Gilmore created several iconic cocktails, including the Moonwalk, which he crafted to commemorate the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969. He also created the Link Up cocktail to celebrate the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project in 1975.
