List of Hungarian Dishes is a compilation of traditional and popular meals originating from Hungary. Hungarian cuisine is known for its hearty, comfort food, often spiced with paprika and other flavors.
Soups[edit | edit source]
Goulash is perhaps the most famous Hungarian dish. It is a soup or stew of meat and vegetables, seasoned with paprika and other spices.
Fisherman's soup or Halászlé is a hot, spicy paprika-based river fish soup, originating from the war torn border region shared by Hungary and Serbia.
Jókai bean soup is a thick soup made from pinto beans, smoked pork, vegetables, and a roux, named after the 19th-century Hungarian novelist, Mór Jókai.
Main Dishes[edit | edit source]
Pörkölt is a meat stew which originates from Hungary, but is eaten throughout Central Europe and the Balkans.
Chicken Paprikash is chicken dish cooked with a lot of paprika and heavy cream. It is typically served with nokedli (a type of dumpling).
Töltött káposzta is a dish made from cabbage leaves stuffed with meat and rice, then slow cooked in a tomato based sauce.
Desserts[edit | edit source]
Dobos Torte is a Hungarian sponge cake layered with chocolate buttercream and topped with caramel.
Somlói Galuska is a trifle made from three different-flavored sponge cakes, pastry cream, raisins, walnuts, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream.
Rigó Jancsi is a traditional Hungarian cube-shaped chocolate sponge cake and chocolate mousse dessert named after a famous violinist.
