List of Malaysian Dishes is a comprehensive compilation of the various types of dishes originating from Malaysia. Malaysia's cuisine reflects the multi-ethnic makeup of its population and is defined by its diversity. Many cultures from within the country and from surrounding regions have greatly influenced the cuisine.

Traditional Malaysian Dishes[edit | edit source]

Nasi Lemak is a fragrant rice dish cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaf. It is commonly found in Malaysia, where it is considered the national dish.

Satay is a dish of seasoned, skewered and grilled meat, served with a sauce. Satay may consist of diced or sliced chicken, goat, mutton, beef, pork, fish, other meats, or tofu.

Roti Canai is an Indian-influenced flatbread dish found in several countries in Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore.

Laksa is a spicy noodle soup popular in the Peranakan cuisine of Southeast Asia. Laksa consists of thick wheat noodles or rice vermicelli with chicken, prawn or fish, served in spicy soup based on either rich and spicy curry coconut milk or on sour asam.

Rendang is a spicy meat dish which originated from the Minangkabau ethnic group of Indonesia, and is now commonly served across the country. The dish is often served at ceremonial occasions and to honour guests.

Street Food in Malaysia[edit | edit source]

Char Kway Teow is a popular noodle dish in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Indonesia. The dish is considered a national favourite in Malaysia and Singapore.

Hokkien Mee refers to fried noodles cooked in Hokkien (Fujian) style. Hokkien Mee is served in many Southeast Asian countries, including Malaysia and Singapore, and is notably a popular dish in Penang.

Nasi Kandar is a popular northern Malaysian dish, which originates from Penang. It was popularized by Indian Muslim traders from India. It is a meal of steamed rice which can be plain or mildly flavored, and served with a variety of curries and side dishes.

Apam Balik is a type of pancake from Malaysia. Apam Balik is usually sold at specialist roadside stalls throughout Malaysia.

Desserts[edit | edit source]

Kuih are bite-sized snack or dessert foods originating from Malaysia. Kuih is an important feature for festive occasions and is also a common everyday snack.

Ais Kacang, literally meaning "bean ice", also commonly known as ABC, is a Malaysian dessert which is also common in Singapore and Brunei.

Cendol is an iced sweet dessert that contains droplets of green rice flour jelly, coconut milk and palm sugar syrup.
