Louise Mountbatten

Louise Mountbatten, also known as Princess Louise of Battenberg, was born on July 13, 1889, in Darmstadt, Germany. She was the daughter of Prince Louis of Battenberg and Princess Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine. Louise was a member of the Battenberg family, a morganatic branch of the Grand Ducal House of Hesse.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Louise spent her early years in Germany before her family moved to England in 1902. She was known for her intelligence and artistic talents, particularly in painting and sculpture. Louise was fluent in multiple languages and had a keen interest in literature and history.

Marriage and Family[edit | edit source]

In 1923, Louise married Crown Prince Gustaf Adolf of Sweden, who later became King Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden. The couple had five children together, including Prince Bertil, Duke of Halland, and Prince Sigvard, Duke of Uppland.

Public Life[edit | edit source]

As Crown Princess of Sweden, Louise was involved in various charitable and cultural activities. She supported causes related to education, healthcare, and the arts. Louise was also known for her patronage of the Swedish Red Cross and other humanitarian organizations.

Later Years[edit | edit source]

After the death of her husband in 1973, Louise continued to be active in public life and charitable work. She passed away on March 7, 1965, at the age of 75. Louise was remembered for her grace, elegance, and dedication to serving others.
