Maria Christina, Duchess of Teschen

Maria Christina, Duchess of Teschen (Maria Christina Johanna Josepha Antonia; 13 May 1742 – 24 June 1798) was a member of the House of Habsburg and the Duchess of Teschen by marriage. She was the daughter of Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor, and Maria Theresa, Empress of Austria.

Early Life and Marriage Maria Christina was born in Vienna, Austria, and was the fourth child of Francis I and Maria Theresa. In 1766, she married Albert Casimir, Duke of Teschen, a member of the House of Saxe-Teschen. The couple had no children of their own but adopted several orphaned children.

Role in Austrian Court Maria Christina was known for her intelligence, charm, and philanthropy. She played an active role in the Austrian court and supported various charitable causes. She was also a patron of the arts and sciences, promoting cultural development in the region.

Later Life and Legacy After the death of her husband in 1822, Maria Christina continued her charitable work and involvement in court affairs. She passed away in 1798 at the age of 56. Maria Christina's legacy lives on through her contributions to the cultural and social life of Austria during her time.
