Maria Theresa of Naples and Sicily

Maria Theresa of Naples and Sicily (1772–1807) was a member of the Spanish branch of the House of Bourbon. She was born on June 6, 1772, in Naples, Italy, as the daughter of King Ferdinand IV of Naples and Maria Carolina of Austria.

Maria Theresa married her first cousin, Francis II, in 1790. The couple had several children, including a son who would later become Emperor Ferdinand I of Austria.

During her time as Empress, Maria Theresa was known for her involvement in political affairs and her efforts to strengthen the Austrian Empire. She played a significant role in the diplomatic relations of the time, particularly during the Napoleonic Wars.

Maria Theresa's reign was marked by both successes and challenges. She faced opposition from various factions within the empire, but also implemented reforms that aimed to modernize and centralize the administration.

Tragically, Maria Theresa passed away on April 13, 1807, at the young age of 34. Her death had a profound impact on the political landscape of Europe at the time.
