Mr. Pibb

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Mr. Pibb is a soft drink produced by The Coca-Cola Company. It was first introduced in 1972 as Peppo to compete with Dr Pepper, but the name was changed to Mr. Pibb after Dr Pepper sued The Coca-Cola Company for trademark infringement.

History[edit | edit source]

The original test markets for Mr. Pibb in 1972 were located in Waco, Texas, the birthplace of Dr Pepper, before the drink's national rollout. The Coca-Cola Company positioned the drink as a spicy cherry alternative to Dr Pepper.

In 2001, the formula was modified and the name was changed to Pibb Xtra. The new formula is a bolder taste than the original formula.

Ingredients[edit | edit source]

The ingredients of Mr. Pibb (now known as Pibb Xtra) are carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, caramel color, phosphoric acid, potassium sorbate and potassium benzoate (to protect taste), artificial and natural flavors, acesulfame potassium, and caffeine.

Availability[edit | edit source]

Mr. Pibb is widely available in the United States. The availability of Mr. Pibb in other countries varies, but it can be found in some countries such as Canada and Guatemala.

In Popular Culture[edit | edit source]

Mr. Pibb has been referenced in various forms of media, including television shows and video games. For example, it was mentioned in the Seinfeld episode "The Pothole".
