NLRP5
NLRP5, also known as NACHT, LRR and PYD domains-containing protein 5 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the NLRP5 gene. It is a member of the NLRP family, which is a group of proteins that play a crucial role in the regulation of innate immune response and inflammation.
Function[edit | edit source]
NLRP5 is involved in the formation of inflammasomes, which are multiprotein complexes that activate inflammatory responses. The protein is also known to play a role in embryogenesis and the development of reproductive tissues.
Clinical significance[edit | edit source]
Mutations in the NLRP5 gene have been associated with recurrent hydatidiform moles and female infertility. Further research is needed to fully understand the role of NLRP5 in human health and disease.
