O-acetylpsilocin

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

O-Acetylpsilocin (also known as 4-AcO-DMT, 4-Acetoxy-DMT, or Psilacetin) is a synthetically produced psychoactive drug and has been suggested by David Nichols to be a potentially useful alternative to psilocybin for pharmacological studies, as they are both believed to be prodrugs of psilocin.

Chemistry[edit | edit source]

O-Acetylpsilocin is a psilocin analog/derivative, as it is a 4-substituted tryptamine. It is acetylated form of the psilocybin mushroom alkaloid psilocin. 4-AcO-DMT is O-acetylated psilocin, much like how heroin is an acetylated form of morphine.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

The compound is metabolized in the body into psilocin, which is active and is responsible for the psychedelic effects. The subjective effects of 4-AcO-DMT are reported to be extremely similar to those of psilocybin mushrooms.

Effects[edit | edit source]

The effects of O-Acetylpsilocin can vary greatly, depending on the dose taken, the individual's personality, mood, expectations, and surroundings. It is generally described as euphoric, mystical, and mind-altering.

Legality[edit | edit source]

The legality of O-Acetylpsilocin varies from country to country. It is illegal in some countries, including the United States, where it is considered a Schedule I drug.
