Omeprazole/amoxicillin/rifabutin
Omeprazole/amoxicillin/rifabutin is a medication combination used in the treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection. This combination is marketed under the brand name Talicia.
Composition[edit | edit source]
The medication consists of three active ingredients:
- Omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces stomach acid production.
- Amoxicillin, an antibiotic that kills bacteria.
- Rifabutin, another antibiotic that kills bacteria.
Uses[edit | edit source]
Omeprazole/amoxicillin/rifabutin is used to treat Helicobacter pylori infection, a bacterial infection that can cause stomach ulcers and is associated with stomach cancer.
Mechanism of action[edit | edit source]
Omeprazole reduces the production of stomach acid, which makes the environment less hospitable for Helicobacter pylori. Amoxicillin and rifabutin kill the bacteria directly.
Side effects[edit | edit source]
Common side effects of omeprazole/amoxicillin/rifabutin include diarrhea, headache, nausea, abdominal pain, rash, and taste disturbance.
