Prelaryngeal lymph node

Prelaryngeal lymph node is a lymph node located in the neck, specifically in front of the larynx. It is part of the lymphatic system, which plays a crucial role in the body's immune response.

Anatomy

The prelaryngeal lymph node, also known as the Delphian node, is situated on the thyrohyoid membrane, which is a broad, fibrous sheet that connects the thyroid cartilage of the larynx to the hyoid bone. This node is typically singular and is located in the midline of the neck.

Function

As part of the lymphatic system, the prelaryngeal lymph node is involved in the body's immune response. It filters lymphatic fluid, trapping and destroying harmful substances such as bacteria and cancer cells.

Clinical Significance

The prelaryngeal lymph node is of particular clinical interest because it can be an early site of metastasis for laryngeal and thyroid cancers. Enlargement of this node, known as lymphadenopathy, can be a sign of these cancers.
