Racepinephrine

Racepinephrine is a bronchodilator used to control and prevent symptoms (wheezing and shortness of breath) caused by ongoing lung disease (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease-COPD which includes bronchitis, asthma, emphysema). It works in the airways by opening breathing passages and relaxing muscles. Controlling symptoms of breathing problems can decrease time lost from work or school.

Uses

Racepinephrine is used to relieve occasional symptoms of asthma, such as wheezing, chest tightness, and feeling short of breath. It is a bronchodilator that makes breathing easier by relaxing and opening air passages to the lungs.

Side Effects

Common side effects of racepinephrine include palpitations, fast heart rate, elevated blood pressure, tremors, nausea, and nervousness. Serious side effects may include irregular heartbeats, chest pain, and difficulty breathing.

Precautions

Before using racepinephrine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to similar drugs (such as epinephrine, isoproterenol, norepinephrine); or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.

Interactions

Drug interactions may change how your medications work or increase your risk for serious side effects. This document does not contain all possible drug interactions. Overdose

If someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call a poison control center right away.
