Rank Hovis McDougall[edit | edit source]

Rank Hovis McDougall (RHM) was a United Kingdom-based food business. It was listed on the London Stock Exchange and was once a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index.

History[edit | edit source]

The company was founded by Joseph Rank in 1875 as a flour milling business. It expanded in the 1960s acquiring numerous other food businesses such as Hovis McDougall. The company was acquired by Premier Foods in March 2007.

Operations[edit | edit source]

RHM produced a wide range of food products, including bread, cakes, pies, crisps, biscuits, and flour. The company also had a significant presence in the foodservice sector, supplying ingredients and finished products to other food businesses.

Brands[edit | edit source]

RHM owned a number of well-known brands, including Hovis, Mother's Pride, Mr Kipling, Sharwood's, Bisto, Paxo, Ambrosia, and Robertson's. Many of these brands are still popular today, despite the company's acquisition by Premier Foods.

Acquisition by Premier Foods[edit | edit source]

In December 2006, it was announced that RHM would be acquired by Premier Foods. The deal was completed in March 2007, creating one of the largest food producers in the UK. Following the acquisition, many of RHM's brands were incorporated into the Premier Foods portfolio.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Despite its acquisition, the legacy of Rank Hovis McDougall lives on through its many popular brands. The company's focus on quality and innovation helped to shape the UK food industry, and its influence can still be seen today.
