Salman Ahmad is a Pakistani-American musician, rock guitarist, physician, and activist. He is best known as the lead guitarist and founder of the Sufi rock band Junoon. Ahmad has been a prominent figure in the music industry of Pakistan and has also made significant contributions to various social and humanitarian causes.

Early Life and Education

Salman Ahmad was born on December 12, 1963, in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. He spent his early years in Pakistan before moving to the United States with his family. Ahmad attended Tappan Zee High School in New York. He later returned to Pakistan to study medicine at King Edward Medical University in Lahore.

Music Career

Formation of Junoon

In 1990, Salman Ahmad founded the band Junoon, which is often credited with pioneering the genre of Sufi rock. The band gained immense popularity in the 1990s and early 2000s, producing several hit albums such as Inquilaab, Azadi, and Parvaaz. Junoon's music is known for its blend of rock with Sufi poetry and themes.

Solo Career

After Junoon went on hiatus, Salman Ahmad pursued a solo career. He released his solo album Infiniti in 2005. Ahmad has also collaborated with various international artists and has performed at numerous global events.

Activism and Humanitarian Work

Salman Ahmad is also known for his activism and humanitarian efforts. He has been involved in various campaigns promoting peace, education, and health. Ahmad is a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador for HIV/AIDS and has worked to raise awareness about the disease in South Asia.

Salman Ahmad is married to Samina Ahmad, and the couple has three children. They currently reside in the United States.
