The State University of Iowa, commonly referred to as UIowa or simply Iowa, is a public research university located in Iowa City, Iowa, United States. It is the oldest university in the state and is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU). Established in 1847, the university offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs across various disciplines.

The State University of Iowa was founded on February 25, 1847, as the State University of Iowa by an act of the Iowa General Assembly. It was the first public university in the state and the first university to admit men and women on an equal basis. The university initially started with just 10 faculty members and 124 students.
