TM2 Domain Containing 1 (also known as TM2D1) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the TM2D1 gene. The TM2D1 gene is located on the long (q) arm of chromosome 1 at position 42.2.

Function[edit | edit source]

The TM2D1 protein is a member of the TM2D family. It is a multi-pass membrane protein that is involved in various cellular processes. The exact function of this protein is not yet fully understood, but it is believed to play a role in cell signaling and cell adhesion.

Structure[edit | edit source]

The TM2D1 protein consists of 274 amino acids and has a predicted molecular weight of approximately 30 kDa. It contains two transmembrane (TM) domains, which are hydrophobic regions that span the cell membrane. The TM2 domains are thought to be involved in protein-protein interactions.

Clinical Significance[edit | edit source]

Mutations in the TM2D1 gene have been associated with certain medical conditions, although further research is needed to fully understand these associations. For example, some studies have suggested a link between TM2D1 and neurodegenerative diseases.
