University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is a public land-grant university located in the Westwood district of Los Angeles, California, United States. It is the southernmost campus of the University of California system. Established in 1919 as the Southern Branch of the University of California, it became the University of California, Los Angeles in 1927. UCLA is considered one of the country's Public Ivy universities, offering over 337 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in a wide range of disciplines. The university is organized into the College of Letters and Science and several graduate schools and programs including the highly ranked Anderson School of Management, School of Law, David Geffen School of Medicine, Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, School of the Arts and Architecture, and School of Theater, Film, and Television.

The origins of UCLA date back to 1881 with the establishment of the Southern Branch of the California State Normal School in Los Angeles, which later became the Los Angeles State Normal School. It joined the University of California system in 1919 as the Southern Branch of the University of California and was renamed the University of California at Los Angeles in 1927. The name was officially changed to University of California, Los Angeles in 1958.

UCLA's campus spans 419 acres in the Westwood district of Los Angeles, approximately five miles from the Pacific Ocean. The campus is renowned for its architectural landmarks such as Royce Hall and the Powell Library, both of which are examples of Romanesque Revival architecture.
