University of the Punjab

University of the Punjab (also referred to as Punjab University) is a public research university located in Lahore, Pakistan. Established in 1882 by the British colonial authorities, it is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in Pakistan and was the first to be established in the majority Muslim area of British India at the time. The university plays a significant role in promoting higher education and research in the country. It offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in various disciplines including Science, Arts, Commerce, Law, Education, and Medicine.

The foundation of the University of the Punjab was laid in 1882, making it one of the first higher education institutions in the Indian subcontinent. Initially, it functioned primarily as an examining body. However, over the years, it expanded its role to include teaching and research, with numerous colleges and faculties coming under its jurisdiction.

The university operates from multiple campuses in Lahore, with the Main Campus, also known as the Quaid-e-Azam Campus, being the central hub. Other campuses include the Allama Iqbal Campus, named after the national poet of Pakistan, and the Gujranwala and Jhelum campuses, which cater to students from those regions.
