Vadilal

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Vadilal is one of the oldest ice cream companies in India. It started as a single outlet in Ahmedabad in 1907 and has now evolved into a leading ice cream and processed food brand in the country.

History[edit | edit source]

Vadilal was established by Vadilal Gandhi who started a soda fountain in 1907. He passed on the business to his son, Ranchod Lal, who ran a one-man operation. Eventually, Ranchod Lal’s sons, Ramchandra and Lakshman, inherited the business and they were instrumental in giving a new direction to the company.

Products[edit | edit source]

Vadilal offers a wide range of ice creams in the country with multiple flavors and packs, across forms (cones, candies, bars, ice-lollies, small cups, big cups, family packs, and economy packs). It has the largest range of ice creams in the country with 50 plus flavors available in more than 250 packs and forms. The range includes the traditional Indian Kulfi and Falooda, exotic Sundaes, and low-fat and sugar-free ice creams.

Operations[edit | edit source]

Vadilal has two production facilities – one at Pundhra in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, and the other one at Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh. The company has a strong distribution network which feeds its products to a large number of retail outlets in major cities and towns in India.

Market Presence[edit | edit source]

Vadilal has entered the processed foods industry to expand its portfolio. It exports its products to the USA, the UK, New Zealand, Kenya, Zambia, and a few other countries. It has also entered the frozen vegetable market with products like frozen peas, sweet corn, mixed vegetables, and ready-to-cook snacks.
