1-Hexene is an organic compound with the formula C 6H 12. It is a colorless liquid with a characteristic hydrocarbon odor. 1-Hexene is classified as an alkene, which means it contains a carbon-carbon double bond.

1-Hexene is produced by several methods, including the oligomerization of ethylene, the Fischer-Tropsch process, and the dehydration of alcohols. The most common method is the oligomerization of ethylene, which involves the catalytic reaction of ethylene to form higher alpha-olefins.

1-Hexene is used primarily as a comonomer in the production of polyethylene. It is also used in the manufacture of synthetic lubricants, plasticizers, and surfactants. Additionally, 1-Hexene serves as an intermediate in the synthesis of various chemical compounds.
