Desmoplasia is a biological process characterized by the growth of fibrous or connective tissue. It is often associated with the body's response to injury or the presence of certain types of tumors. Desmoplasia is particularly notable in the context of cancer, where it can influence the behavior and progression of the disease.

Pathophysiology[edit | edit source]

Desmoplasia involves the proliferation of fibroblasts and the subsequent production of extracellular matrix components such as collagen. This process results in the formation of dense, fibrous tissue. The desmoplastic reaction is commonly seen in carcinomas, particularly pancreatic cancer, breast cancer, and colorectal cancer.
