Distally

Distally refers to a position further from the center of the body or point of attachment. It is the opposite of proximally, which refers to a position closer to the center of the body or point of attachment.

In anatomy, the term "distal" is used to describe the location of certain body parts. For example, the fingers are distal to the wrist, meaning they are further away from the center of the body. Similarly, the toes are distal to the ankle.

The term is also used in medicine and dentistry to describe the position of injuries, symptoms, or dental work. For example, a doctor might say that a cut is distal to the elbow, meaning it is further down the arm from the elbow.

Distally is also used in genetics to describe the position of genes on a chromosome. A gene is said to be distal if it is further away from the centromere, the point where the two chromatids of a chromosome are attached.
