Gonadotropin releasing hormone
Commonly abbreviated as GnRH, it is a peptide hormone made by a part of the brain called the hypothalamus.
Function[edit | edit source]
GnRH causes the pituitary gland in the brain to make and secrete the hormones luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH).
In men[edit | edit source]
In men, these hormones cause the testicles to make testosterone.
In women[edit | edit source]
In women, they cause the ovaries to make estrogen and progesterone.
Other names[edit | edit source]
It is also called gonadotropin-releasing hormone, LH-RH, LHRH, and luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone.
