HumaPen

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

HumaPen is a type of insulin pen used by individuals with diabetes to administer insulin. It is manufactured by Eli Lilly and Company, a global pharmaceutical company.

Overview[edit | edit source]

The HumaPen is designed to deliver a precise dose of insulin, which is critical for individuals with diabetes to manage their blood glucose levels. The pen is reusable and compatible with Humalog and Humulin, two types of insulin also produced by Eli Lilly and Company.

Design and Functionality[edit | edit source]

The HumaPen is designed for ease of use and convenience. It has a large dose window for easy reading and a dial for dose selection. The pen uses replaceable insulin cartridges and disposable needles.

The HumaPen delivers insulin in one-unit increments, allowing for precise dosing. It can deliver up to 60 units of insulin in a single injection. The pen is designed to be used with a new needle for each injection to ensure sterility and prevent potential complications such as insulin injection site reactions.

Models[edit | edit source]

There are several models of the HumaPen, including the HumaPen Luxura, HumaPen Luxura HD, and HumaPen Savvio. Each model has unique features designed to meet the needs of different users. For example, the HumaPen Luxura HD is designed to deliver half-unit doses of insulin, which can be beneficial for individuals who require smaller doses of insulin.

Usage[edit | edit source]

To use the HumaPen, an individual inserts an insulin cartridge into the pen, attaches a new needle, and dials the desired dose. The individual then injects the insulin by pressing the dose knob. After injection, the needle should be removed and disposed of properly to prevent needle-stick injuries and maintain sterility.
