Metanephrines are metabolites produced by the catecholamines epinephrine (adrenaline) and norepinephrine (noradrenaline). These substances are important for understanding the function of the adrenal glands and are crucial in the diagnosis of pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma, which are tumors that can produce excessive catecholamines.
