Nortetrazepam
Nortetrazepam is a benzodiazepine derivative. It is a minor active metabolite of diazepam, temazepam, and oxazepam. Nortetrazepam is known for its anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, sedative, and muscle relaxant properties.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
Nortetrazepam works by enhancing the effect of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) at the GABA_A receptor, which results in its calming effects on the central nervous system (CNS). This mechanism is similar to other benzodiazepines.
Metabolism[edit | edit source]
Nortetrazepam is formed as a metabolite during the breakdown of diazepam, temazepam, and oxazepam in the body. The metabolic pathway involves the hepatic enzyme system, particularly the cytochrome P450 enzymes.
