Symptoms of prepatellar bursitis include swelling, pain, and tenderness in the area over the patella. Treatment typically involves rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE), as well as anti-inflammatory medications. In severe cases, aspiration of the bursa or surgical intervention may be necessary.

Infection

Infection of the prepatellar bursa, known as septic bursitis, can occur due to a break in the skin or an underlying infection. This condition requires prompt medical attention and is typically treated with antibiotics and drainage of the infected fluid.
