The primary function of the right atrioventricular orifice is to facilitate the passage of deoxygenated blood from the right atrium to the right ventricle. During systole, the tricuspid valve closes to prevent the backflow of blood into the right atrium as the right ventricle contracts and pumps blood into the pulmonary artery.
