Schaumburg is a village located in Cook County and DuPage County, Illinois, United States. It is a northwestern suburb of Chicago. The village is part of the Golden Corridor.

Schaumburg was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Sauk, Fox, Potawatomi, and Kickapoo. The first European settlers arrived in the 1830s, primarily of German descent. The village was officially incorporated in 1956.

. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 19.33 square miles, of which 19.22 square miles is land and 0.11 square miles is water.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

As of the 2020 census, Schaumburg had a population of 78,723. The village has a diverse population with a significant number of residents of German, Irish, Polish, and Indian descent.

Economy[edit | edit source]

Schaumburg is home to the world headquarters of Motorola Solutions and one of the two IKEA stores in Illinois. The village also hosts the Woodfield Mall, one of the largest shopping malls in the United States.

Education[edit | edit source]

Schaumburg is served by several school districts, including Schaumburg Community Consolidated School District 54 and Township High School District 211. Higher education institutions in the area include Roosevelt University and a satellite campus of Northern Illinois University.

Transportation[edit | edit source]

Schaumburg is accessible via several major highways, including Interstate 90 and Illinois Route 53. The village is also served by the Metra commuter rail system, with the Schaumburg station providing access to downtown Chicago.

Parks and Recreation[edit | edit source]

The Schaumburg Park District operates numerous parks and recreational facilities, including the Schaumburg Boomers Stadium, home to the Schaumburg Boomers baseball team.
