Scholastic Aptitude Test

Scholastic aptitude test, commonly abbreviated as SAT, is an aptitude test administered to secondary school students in years 11 or 12, and to some adult students, to help determine capability for postsecondary study in the United States.

Two parts

It is divided into two parts

• The SAT Reasoning Test measuring reading, writing and quantitative skills; and
• The SAT Subject Tests measuring knowledge and reasoning ability in various subjects.

1 Possible scores on each SAT section range from 200 to 800, for a total possible score of 400 to 1600.

• The College Board releases SAT scores annually by reporting on the scores for seniors from their most recent administration.
• Some colleges, however, may take into consideration for college admission a student’s highest section score, even if received on separate testing administrations.
• Only school, system, and state scores based on the most recent administration can be compared to the national scores.
• It should also be noted that the national scores released by The College Board include both private as well as public school students.
