The University of New Mexico (UNM) is a public research university located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was founded on February 28, 1889, and is the state's flagship university. The university offers bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and professional degree programs in a wide variety of fields.

The University of New Mexico was established by the New Mexico Territorial Legislature on February 28, 1889, with the goal of providing higher education to the residents of the territory. The university's first building, Hodgin Hall, was completed in 1892 and still stands today as a symbol of the university's long history.

Campus[edit | edit source]

The main campus of the University of New Mexico is located in Albuquerque, and spans over 800 acres. The campus is known for its distinctive Pueblo Revival architecture, which reflects the cultural heritage of the region. Notable buildings on campus include Zimmerman Library, the Center for the Arts, and the UNM Hospital.

The University of New Mexico has produced many notable alumni, including Gary Johnson, former Governor of New Mexico, Edward Abbey, author and environmentalist, and Hank Baskett, former NFL player.
