Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi is the capital and the second-most populous city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), after Dubai. It is also the capital of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the largest of the UAE's seven emirates. Abu Dhabi lies on a T-shaped island jutting into the Persian Gulf from the central western coast.

The area surrounding Abu Dhabi has been inhabited for thousands of years. The modern city of Abu Dhabi was founded in 1761 by the Bani Yas tribe, led by the Al Nahyan family. The discovery of oil in 1958 transformed Abu Dhabi from a small fishing village into a modern city with significant economic and political influence.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Abu Dhabi is located on an island less than 250 meters from the mainland and is connected to the mainland by the Mussafah Bridge, Al Maqta Bridge, and Sheikh Zayed Bridge. The city is characterized by its modern skyline, which includes the Etihad Towers, Emirates Palace, and the Aldar Headquarters building.

Abu Dhabi has a diverse and rapidly growing economy. It is the wealthiest emirate of the UAE in terms of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and per capita income. The economy is largely based on the oil and gas industry, but the government has been making efforts to diversify into other sectors such as tourism, real estate, and financial services.

Abu Dhabi is a popular tourist destination, known for its luxury hotels, shopping malls, and cultural landmarks. Key attractions include the Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Yas Marina Circuit, and the Corniche.

The city is a center for sports in the UAE, hosting events such as the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship. The Zayed Sports City is a major sports complex in the city.
