Anatolia (Turkish: Anadolu), also known by the Latin name Asia Minor, is a large, peninsula in Western Asia and the westernmost protrusion of the Asian continent. It makes up the majority of modern-day Turkey. The region is bounded by the Black Sea to the north, the Mediterranean Sea to the south, and the Aegean Sea to the west. The eastern boundary is formed by the mountain ranges that separate Anatolia from the mainland of Asia.

History

Anatolia has a rich history that dates back to the Paleolithic era, with evidence of ancient human habitation. Throughout the centuries, it has been home to numerous civilizations, including the Hittites, the Greek city-states, the Persian Empire, the Roman Empire, and the Byzantine Empire.
