Chlamydophila psittaci
(kluh-mih-doh-FIH-luh see-TAH-chee)A type of bacterium that can infect humans and animals. It spreads to humans from infected birds and can cause a lung infection called psittacosis. It may also cause an infection of the conjunctiva (the membrane that lines the eyelids and covers the white part of the eye). This may increase the risk of a type of lymphoma called ocular adnexa MALT lymphoma, which is a type of B-cell lymphoma.
