Colchicum
(koV -chik-um) [koXxckov, colchicum]. Meadow-saffron. The corm and seed of C. autumnale, the properties of which are due to an alkaloid, colchicin. It is an emetic, diuretic, diaphoretic, and drastic cathartic. It is valuable in acute gout . and in some forms of rheumatism. Dose of the powdered corm (colchici cormus, U. S. P.) 2-8 gr. (0.13- 0.52 Gm.); of the powdered seeds (colchici semen, U. S. P.) 1-5 gr. (0.065-0.32 Gm.).
