CoronaVac
CoronaVac is an inactivated vaccine for COVID-19 developed by Sinovac. It relies on traditional technology similar to the influenza (flu) vaccine and hepatitis A vaccine.
Overview[edit | edit source]
CoronaVac is a two-dose vaccine, with each dose given two weeks apart. It is stored at normal fridge temperatures and is therefore easier to transport and store than some other COVID-19 vaccines.
Efficacy[edit | edit source]
The efficacy of CoronaVac varies depending on the population in which it is used. In Brazil, it was found to be 50.7% effective in preventing symptomatic infections, while in Indonesia, it was 65.3% effective. In Turkey, the efficacy was reported to be 83.5%.
Side Effects[edit | edit source]
Common side effects of CoronaVac include pain at the injection site, fatigue, muscle pain, and fever. Serious side effects are rare.
Approval[edit | edit source]
As of July 2021, CoronaVac has been approved for emergency use in over 40 countries.
