Decadron

Decadron (also known as Dexamethasone) is a type of corticosteroid medication. It is used in the treatment of many conditions, including rheumatic problems, a number of skin diseases, severe allergies, asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease, croup, brain swelling, and along with antibiotics in tuberculosis.

Uses[edit | edit source]

Decadron is used to treat conditions such as arthritis, blood disorders, breathing problems, severe allergies, skin diseases, cancer, eye problems, and immune system disorders. It is also used as a test for an adrenal gland disorder (Cushing's syndrome).

Side Effects[edit | edit source]

Possible side effects of Decadron include stomach upset, headache, dizziness, menstrual changes, trouble sleeping, increased appetite, or weight gain. Serious side effects include mood swings, muscle pain, bone pain, eye pain, or swelling.

Precautions[edit | edit source]

Before taking Decadron, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone); or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.

Interactions[edit | edit source]

Decadron may interact with other medications, including water pills/diuretics, blood thinners, rifamycins, azole antifungals, boceprevir, telaprevir, cyclosporine, insulin or oral diabetes medications, and ketoconazole.

Overdose[edit | edit source]

If someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call a poison control center right away.
