After discovering his pyrokinetic abilities, Santana inadvertently causes a fire that leads to the death of innocent people, for which he feels deep remorse. He is eventually recruited into the Suicide Squad, a government-run team of imprisoned supervillains who undertake dangerous missions in exchange for commuted sentences.
